Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Mano App (“Mano”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Mano iOS app, Android app, and thismano.com.

Information we collect

The types below depend on the features you use and the permissions you grant.

Account

Name, username, email or phone, profile photo, birthday, bio, and sign-in details when you create an account with Apple, Google, or another supported method. Birthday is used for age checks, birthday week on the map, friend birthday alerts, and yearly Wrapped.

Content you create

Places, reviews, moments, stories, events, chats, reactions, friends, and other posts you add. You choose who can see each item when privacy options are available.

Location

Approximate or precise location to center the map, suggest nearby places, attach posts to a place, and optionally show last seen to friends. We do not broadcast live GPS to everyone. You can turn location off for Mano in device settings.

Health and fitness data

Mano may access health data on your device. This section is the disclosure of how we access, collect, and use that health data. Optional step count only. On Android this is today’s steps from Google Health Connect. On iOS this is today’s steps from Apple HealthKit. We do not read heart rate, sleep, workouts, medical records, or other health types. We do not write health data back to Health Connect or HealthKit.

  • How we collect it: only after you grant Steps permission. Mano does not track steps in the background on its own.
  • How we use it: to show today’s steps and a yearly total in Stats, and optionally today’s steps under your avatar after you update your location.
  • Storage: daily step totals are saved on this device only.
  • Sharing: step counts are not uploaded to Mano servers and are not shared with friends, advertisers, or other third parties.
  • Control: turn Steps off for Mano in Health Connect, Apple Health, or your device settings. Mano will then stop reading new step data.

Photos, camera, and microphone

Used when you take or choose photos and videos for posts, or record voice notes. Photo location metadata may be used when you review photos that already contain it.

Contacts and calendar

Contacts may be used to find friends on Mano if you allow it. Calendar access is used to add a saved event to your device calendar.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we store a push token (FCM on Android, APNs on iOS) so we can send alerts you enable, such as chat, friend requests, and birthday reminders. You can turn notifications off in device settings.

Device and usage data

Technical information such as IP address, device type, app version, crash logs, and how you use the app or website. We use Firebase Analytics for events such as which screens you open. This helps us operate, secure, and improve Mano.

Biometrics

Optional Quick Login can use Face ID, Touch ID, or your device fingerprint. The biometric template stays on your device. Mano only receives a pass or fail from the system and does not collect or store biometric data.

How we use information

  • Provide the map, profiles, posts, chat, and events.
  • Keep you signed in and secure your account, including optional Quick Login.
  • Show birthday week on the map and send birthday alerts you enable.
  • Send notifications you enable.
  • Show Stats, including optional on-device step totals.
  • Respond to support requests and fix bugs.
  • Meet legal obligations if we are required to.

We do not sell your personal information.

When we share information

Other people see what you choose to publish, based on your privacy settings (for example public, friends, or private).

We use service providers to run Mano, including hosting, sign-in (Apple, Google, Firebase), maps, and push notifications. They process data only to provide those services.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users and the service.

Health and fitness step data is not shared with these parties.

Storage and retention

Account and content data are stored on our servers for as long as your account exists, or as needed to provide the service and meet legal requirements. Step counts stay on your device. After you delete your account, we remove your Mano data, including places and friends, subject to backups and legal holds that may last a short extra period.

Your choices

  • Edit your profile and privacy settings in the app (private map, discoverable profile, last seen, and post audience).
  • Change or revoke location, camera, photos, microphone, contacts, calendar, notifications, health, and biometric unlock in device or app settings. You can also edit or remove your birthday and bio in your profile.
  • Delete your account from Help in the app. You can also email us to request access, correction, or deletion.

If you are in a region with additional privacy rights (including GDPR), you may also object to certain processing, restrict processing, or request a copy of your data. You can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

Mano is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 where that is the required age. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

International transfers

We may process data in Malaysia and in other countries where our providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your own.

Changes

We may update this page. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. If a change is material, we will provide notice in the app or on this site when we can.
